EPOS Tills and Till software for Hospitality
As part of their requirement to replace the old manual till and stock control system City of Bath College’s Shrubbery Restaurant was also looking for a way to provide customers with a more efficient, professional service and enhance the whole dining experience.
City of Bath College selected the ‘state-of-the-art’ KCPOS Hospitality solution incorporating electronic booking and ordering from AMA. The KCPOS software and associated EPOS equipment also allows the College’s hospitality and catering students to familiarise themselves with the type of equipment now being used at top restaurants around the country.
The new Electronic Point of Sale equipment was purchased thanks to a £12,000 grant from the Savoy Educational Trust. As well as a brand new booking system complete with table plans and stock control software, the College now has four handheld ordering devices. Instead of writing down orders by hand, students now log a customer’s order on the handheld system and the order is relayed directly to the kitchens where chefs can start preparing the food straight away. Each of the handheld devices also keeps a track of the food orders for each table, which makes preparation of the final bill quicker and easier.
Speed of service in the bistro has improved, sales have increased plus the area is now busier and more realistic for the students. All students enjoy using the system and due to its nature the amount of over rings has decreased and there are less problems with the till and reconciliation of takings. All students that progress into the hospitality industry will have a very good understanding along with practical knowledge and experience of using a software package and this knowledge will be easily transferred onto other systems.
Bridget Halford, Head of Department for Hospitality, Hair, Beauty and Floristry, said: “As well as making the dining experience at the Shrubbery an even more pleasant experience, the new equipment will benefit our students by preparing them for work in the industry. The new system has proven an invaluable resource and we were only able to purchase it thanks to the generosity of the Savoy Educational Trust.”
The Shrubbery Restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Allen Building of the City of Bath College Campus. The restaurant is run by students and offers quality cuisine using ingredients sourced from local suppliers wherever possible. The Savoy Educational Trust is an independent, grant giving, charitable trust whose main aim is to advance and develop education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry.
